Wildlife Corridor Conservation

Habitat Conservation Society (HCS) is a grassroots conservation NGO working to protect wildlife corridors across the Chandrapur district in Maharashtra. These corridors are vital pathways for species like tigers, leopards, elephants, and sloth bears, allowing safe movement between protected areas such as Tadoba-Andhari, Kanhalgaon, Kawal, and Umred-Karhandla.

As roads, railways, and canals expand, they increasingly fragment habitats, leading to rising cases of roadkill, railkill, and human-wildlife conflict. HCS addresses this crisis through scientific monitoring, collecting data on animal movement, mortality hotspots, and infrastructure impact.

We focus on high-risk zones like the Chandrapur–Mul Highway and Ballarshah–Gondia Railway Track, using our findings to push for wildlife underpasses, signage, speed regulations, fencing, and where possible, realignment of development projects.

Our goal is clear: keep corridors connected and wildlife safe. Because without safe passage, even the most protected forests can become ecological islands, putting India’s iconic wildlife at risk.
